Jewellery-making workshops at Bellore jewellers in Hatton Garden
Bellore is a tiny Aladdin’s cave of a shop on Greville Street, located in the city’s jewellery quarter, Hatton Garden. It sells everything a jewellery-maker could possibly need – from silver sheet and essential tools to gorgeous gemstones and other special extras to lighten my working life!
Temptation is never far away in this lovely place. Gemstones lure you, nestling in sparkly cabinets and hung on colour co-ordinated strings along the walls. And at the back, there are little drawers full of silver and gold ‘findings’ of all shapes and sizes, plus reels of silver and gold chain priced by the metre. You are always left to browse in peace for as long as you need, yet should you require help, the lovely Manager Dan and his able assistants are always on hand to offer advice.
Although Bellore is a favourite haunt of jewellers, it has also gained a bit of a reputation with crafty magpies. There’s a noticeboard crammed with cards for talented designer-makers offering their services. Alternatively, if you are looking to commission a unique piece then one of the in-house team at Bellore will also make it up for a very reasonable fee.
Once you have satisfied your magpie instincts, I thoroughly recommend popping next door to Abigail’s Kitchen for a reviving coffee then heading off in search of more gems at Leather Lane Market.
